Stop at the Washington County Free Library, the first county library to be organized in the United States, opened its doors at a different location on August 9th, 1901. The first librarian, Mary L. Titcomb, originated the first book wagon in the nation in 1905.

In 1802, famous Indian Chiefs Little Turtle and Cornplanter passed through Hagerstown with 15 Senecas to visit the Great White Father in Washington, who was Thomas Jefferson.
